Max Grabowski founded the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company in the early 1900s, a company that first focused on commercial trucks. The company was later procured by GM and the merging companies formed the General Motors Truck Company. Later, the two companies were joined by Reliance Motor Car in 1912 and they manufactured 22 thousand GMC trucks in 1922. GMC is a company that also created thousands of vehicles utilized in WWII: a total of 600 thousand vehicles were made and used during the war by the United States Military. At one point the company even produced ambulances.
At one time, during the 40's GMC used to manufacture buses, but later stopped doing so in the '70s and 80's when competition called for different measures. Today, General Motors is recognized for the high quality sports utility vehicles, pickup trucks, light duty and medium duty trucks it designs as well as the vans it manufactures.
