In the early 2000s a marquee car name from the past came back to life in the high-end car market in the United States. In association with Mercedes Benz, the custom-made Maybach made a splash with its detailed opulent car. Between 1921 and 1940 this car was one of the finest vehicles built in Europe for those buyers that could afford the finest automobiles.
In its early days after its founding in 1909, by Wilhelm Maybach and his son Karl Maybach, they made diesel and gas engines. They were the supplier to Zeppelin and after 1918 they moved into the custom car business. Those people who could buy the finest cars available purchased their cars.During the war they built tank and boat engines for the Wehrmacht. After WWII there was little market for high-end cars in Germany so they built engines for the French. Nowadays they have returned to building custom cars in association with Mercedes Benz. Their direct competitor is Rolls Royce.
