Mercury is an automobile line produced by Ford Motor Company. All of the vehicles today are produced on the Ford platform. The Mercury line has filled a slot between the economy model Fords and the luxury Lincolns from 1939 forward, as a near-luxury vehicle. Models produced in the 50's and 60's stretched and lowered the traditional Ford vehicle models, and made these vehicles a popular and profitable brand in their own right. While sales peaked in 1978 and again in 1993, today approximately 200,000 of these vehicles are sold each year. Current models include the Mariner, the Milan, the Mountaineer, the Grand Marquis, the Monterey and the Montegro. Models range from traditional sedans to SUVs and a minivan. An environmentally friendly hybrid version of the Mariner joined the lineup in 2006. Recent branding efforts include new distinctive badge style lettering, a unique waterfall style grid, and new advertising campaigns. "
