Nissan Motors had its beginnings with Kwaishinsha Motorcar Works in 1914, when a DAT car was produced. The company went on to produce a smaller car, called the Datsun. In 1934, the automotive division of the company separated and Nissan Motors was founded, manufacturing airplanes, engines and trucks for the Japanese military at that time. A long history of successful alliances, first with Austin Motors, then Prince Motors, and recently, Renault Motors, aided the company in its success. In the 1950's, after seeing a need for small, practical, fuel efficient vehicles, the Datsun became a worldwide success. Today, this company produces both a line of economical vehicles and a luxury automotive line, sold under the Infiniti label. With award winning engines, great style and a good reputation, it is no surprise that this automotive company is now the third largest Japanese motor company, and a significant competitor to major US auto makers.
