The largest automaker by sales revenue in the world is the Japanese multinational corporation, Toyota Motor Corporation headquartered in Aichi, Japan. The Corporation has a half-owned subsidiary , Daihatsu, both of which are a part of the larger Toyota Group. Lexus and Scion are other subsidiary companies of the larger group company as well. There are 522 subsidiary companies all together.
The company was founded by Kiichiro Toyoda in 1937 as a spin off from his father's textile company. The new company that Kiichiro created aimed at making automobiles. The first Type A engine was created in 1934 and the first passenger car in 1935, before the company went on its own
They are known world wide for its vehicles, however it still makes looms as the original company did as well as robots. Toyota leads the way in the vehicle manufacturing industry, surpassing even General Motors in sales figures year after year.
