The Acura MDX was introduced to the public in late 2000 as a 2001 model. The MDX was created to replace the very slow selling Acura SLX. It was an instant success in the United States, so it became available in Japan in 2003. This is a luxurious mid size luxury crossover sport utility vehicle, competing with the Lexus RX, Infiniti FX, BMW X5, Volvo XC90, and the Mercedes- Benz M-Class. The first generation of the MDX was made available in 2000 as the 2001 model and featured a 3.5 liter, 253 horsepower engine. The wheelbase measured 106.3 inches, the length measured 188.7 inches, the width 77 inches, and the height measured 71.3 inches. This body style featured five doors, four of which were passenger and one that was the rear door. The second generation of the MDX was produced starting for the 2007 model year. This model still had the five door style, but the engine and body style have been upgraded. The new engine is a 3.7 liter 24 valve single overhead cam v6 TEC. The width of the second generation is a bit wider and it is offered in three different packages including sport, tech, and entertainment. The different packages offer something for everyone."
