The German automobile makers Audi manufacture the Audi A8, a vehicle that is now in its second generation of production, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Automotive Group. The A8 is classified as a full sized luxury automobile and the vehicle first emerged on the market in 1994. The first generation ran for several years and a newer generation emerged in 2004. The A8 is quite similar to other vehicles on the market including vehicles like the Phaenton by Volkswagen, the Bentley Continental GT, the Continental GTC and the Continental Flying Spur.
The A8 is made with a Volkswagen D3 platform and an entire host of engine configurations including the 3.2 Liter V-6, the 4.2 Liter V-8, the 6.0 Liter W-12, the 3.0 Liter diesel V-6, and the 4.2 Liter diesel V-8 engine. All of the latest models are offered with a six speed automatic transmission.
