The BMW 5 Series, today comprised of the E60 saloon model (a sedan) and the E61 touring model (a station wagon) offers luxury in a mid-size executive class vehicle. First offered in 1972, this product line began with a luxurious and comfortable four door sedan and it has continued to build on that foundation. The models in this series are designated by both chassis and engine type. The chassis model is identified by an E followed by a two digit number, while the engine is denoted, in this series, with a three digit number beginning with a five. Today, many luxurious and practical options are available on the BMW 5 Series, including Xdrive, BMW's four wheel drive technology, excellent sound systems, active steering, iDrive technology and more. The continuous passive motion comfort technology seating used in these vehicles makes for a comfortable and smooth ride, and has won automotive technology awards. "
