First released in 1953 by Chevrolet, the Corvette is best known as "America's Sports Car." In the beginning, the engine was a straight 6 with a two-speed automatic transmission, and this progressed to a V8, 7.0 liter with a six-speed transmission. The manufacturer has continued to earn praise for its handling and more recently for its performance and style. Many advanced features are standard in the Chevrolet Corvette which include: theft deterrent systems, tire pressure and oil life monitors, and anti-lock brakes. In the ergonomic cockpit, all vehicles have a standard am/fm stereo with CD/MP3 player, radio data system, and seven speakers. Buyers have three suspension choices, standard, Magnetic Selective Ride, or the Z51 Performance Package. Featured developments in the history of the Chevrolet Corvette have been: 1957 Fuelie (fuel-injected), 1963 Sting Ray split window, 1965-67 big block engines, LT-1's in the 1970's, and the ZR1 and C5 in the 1990's."
