The Malibu has always been the little brother to the Impala model since it first came on the scene in 1964. The Malibu has been a staple model of the Chevy line-up since that time, but it has always been kept smaller than the Impala. The Malibu got its name from the seaside region of the Southern coast of California. The connotation has always been one of glamour, since this area of the California coast is famous for the Hollywood people who live by the Pacific.
Although never as popular as the Impala, it has been an all-purpose model that has had a police car version, a rental car version and a special Iraqi version that failed when the Iran Iraq war broke out. In 2008 the model is supposed to be roomier and have a more powerful engine.
