Like the Model T will always be associated with the Ford car company, the Crown Victoria will also have a similar association to it. The Ford line-up has had a Crown Victoria model in its line-up since 1955. As of 2008 the venerable name will no longer be sold through dealerships. The model will be available only for fleet sales.
The police interceptor version has always been popular for use by police departments. They chose it for its rugged construction and its reliability. It also came with a heavier chassis for safety and ramming situations. Taxi companies also liked the model for similar reasons, even though it was more expensive to operate. For over fifty years the Crown Victoria has been a key model in the Ford line-up of cars. Do not be surprised if it remerges in the future, as popular models seem to do in the automobile industry.
