The first Ford Mustang rolled off the lots in 1964, and these cars have been a symbol of power and status since then, with a strong tradition of racing and showing. As Ford approached her centennial year of production, the company wanted to revive and showcase some of the traditional "heritage" cars including the Mustang and the Thunderbird. This lead to a completely redesigned Mustang being created to be released in the 2005 model year as an example of this blast from the past strategy. The new Ford Mustang represents the fifth generation, and the throwback styling, so reminiscent of the original cars from the 1960's, was nicknamed "retro-futurism" by Senior Vice President of Design, J Mays. This pony car pays homage to her powerhouse history with a lot of muscle and a heaping of style for buyers looking for that classic symbol of style and power. "
