Mercedes-Benz created a new SUV in their GL Class that includes room for 7 occupants with 3 rows of seats. The two available engines are either a gas engine or a diesel engine. The gas engine is a 4.6-liter V-8 that can generate up to 335 hp. The diesel, which is clean enough to pass all 50 states' emissions requirements, is a 3.0-liter V-8 that can generate up to 215 hp. The standard transmission is a 7-speed automatic with overdrive. The 4-wheel drive vehicle sits on a 121.1-inch wheelbase. Towing capacity is 7,500 lbs.
Since the GL Class is manufactured by Mercedes-Benz, the SUVs have plenty of luxury built in. Safety features, such as load limiting seatbelts, airbags on all 3 rows, antilock brakes, and the electronic stability control system are included standard. The vehicles also feature leather seats, wood trim, the COMMAND computer system, and extra large cup holders designed for the US market. Even with the added seat row, the raked front and powerful wheel arches maintain the SUV look.
