The German auto manufacturer, Volkswagen, has always been excellent at keeping up with the changing demands of American consumers. When research showed that drivers in the United States preferred sedans over hatchbacks, the company modified their existing hatchback, the Golf, adding nicer interior trim and a sedan body style and marketing the new Volkswagen Jetta to American customers with much success.
Likewise, as consumers in the United States demand more power, size, and performance from their vehicles, the Volkswagen company has responded. The Volkswagen Jetta is on the fifth generation model since it was introduced in 1980, and each successive generation has grown in both size and power. Today, the Jetta is available in two styles for the consumer to choose from, including the 4 door sedan and the 4 door station wagon, both of which have been the only style options since 1998.
