Most auto companies in Europe would love to have the level of growth that Audi has seen over the last two decades. This Bavaria based auto maker has pushed beyond Western Europe and begun selling their luxurious car line in other parts of the world. Major urban markets in Africa and the Middle East have allowed the company to increase their profit margin while India's soaring economy has led the company to open up dealerships in several major Indian cities.
These successes would not have been obvious to Audi's founder August Horch in 1899. The company was started to create novelty vehicles for auto races popular in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. The growth of the brand name came with its inclusion into Auto Union's portfolio for five decades. While the Volkswagen family of companies now owns this historically strong auto brand, the four circles that brand every stylish sedan and SUV represent the four partner companies that help set the brand on its way.
