Volvo is a Swedish vehicle manufacturer that creates trucks, buses, construction equipment, marine and industrial drive applications, aerospace components and financial services. The company was officially founded on April 14, 1927 in the city of Gothenburg. Volvo means 'I Roll' in Latin and the name was officially registered in 1911. There was no activity on the automobile side until August 10, 1926 after which they prepared 10 prototypes of vehicles for release. The first series, the OV4, left the factory on April 14, 1927, the official founding date of the company. The first truck came into production in January 1928 and was exported to Europe in the early 1930s. The first bus came out in 1934, followed by aircraft engines in the early 1940s. The company sold the business end to Ford in 1998 and now focuses on commercial vehicles, however a line of small vehicles and autos are still produced.
