2014 Audi A8 Overview
2014 Audi A8 Overview
When you think of top-of-the-line luxury cars, of the best luxury cars out there, a few stand out. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the BMW 7-Series, and now, the Audi A8. While in the past, the Audi has sometimes been considered a step below the other two, with each year that goes by, the Audi A8 draws ever-closer to being dead even with other luxury German automakers.
The 2014 Audi A8 brings with it some interesting changes, the most notable of which is the diesel model, the Audi A8 L TDI, which features a 3.0-liter, V-6 engine that generates 240 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Fans of previous Audi A8 models will also notice a slight change in the appearance of the 2014 Audi A8.
What hasn’t changed is the feeling you get when you see your Audi A8, when you get behind the wheel, and when you take it out on the open road. As always, the 2014 Audi A8 is a vehicle that excels in just about every area a sedan can excel in. Once again scoring top marks for performance, luxury, and style, the Audi A8 is a great car to own if you’re in the market for a leading luxury sedan.
New for 2014
You’ll see some interesting new things in the 2014 Audi A8. Keep an eye out for:
- New diesel model
- LED wave-style headlights
- Revised exterior styling
The new 2014 Audi A8 still retains the classic Audi style, including that trapezoidal front grille, but the new exterior has a leaner, meaner look. The grille revised slightly and new wave-like LED headlights are added, along with a front bumper that features larger air intakes.
Interior & Cargo
While some lament the somewhat limited 13.2 cubic feet of trunk space, it should be enough for most situations, and you can always load a bag in the roomy back seat. There’s room in this full-size sedan for five, and most of these passengers will find the 2014 Audi A8 to offer industry-leading comfort, with lots of rich, soft-touch fabrics in your choice of colors, leather, and wood trim everywhere.
Some of the many appealing features you’ll find on the 2014 Audi A8 include the Audi Multi Media Interface, or MMI, which helps you control car functions easily with the help of a highly responsive touch pad and eight-inch pop-up screen. Drivers and front seat passengers will also appreciate the 12-way power front seats, and everyone will enjoy the premium Bose audio system and the Wi-Fi system with Google Earth, known as Audi Connect.
A selection of the wide range of optional luxury features includes an upgrade to 22-way power massaging front seats and a rear seat entertainment system with DVD player and two ten-inch, headrest-mounted LCD screens.
Those with safety concerns will want to pile on the safety options available with the 2014 Audi A8, like the infrared night vision system, blind spot warning, lane departure system, and frontal collision avoidance system. Even without these options, there’s plenty to keep Audi A8 drivers and passengers safe, like four-wheel anti-lock brakes, plenty of airbags, stability and traction control, front and rear ventilated disc brakes, electronic brake force distribution, and emergency braking assist. An anti-theft alarm system and engine immobilizer keep your car safe when you’re not in it, while child seat anchors and rear child safety locks keep your children safe when you are.
The energy-conscious will appreciate the new 2014 A8 L TDI, which features a diesel engine that churns out 240 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque with its 3.0-liter, V-6 engine, while offering enviable fuel economy of 24/36 mpg city/highway and providing the same level of high-performance handling and responsiveness that you’ll find in other Audis.
As always, Audi does a great job of combining a sporty ride with luxury, thanks to an all-wheel-drive system that’s biased towards more athletic rear-wheel control, along with options like a sport-tuned suspension and adaptive steering. Besides the diesel, three engine choices let you determine exactly how much power you need, from the supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 that generates 333 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque; to the 4.0-liter twin turbo V-8 that gives you 420 horses and 444 lb-ft of torque; to the big daddy, the 6.3-liter W-12, which cranks out 500 hp and 463 lb-ft of torque. Each of these engine options is linked to an eight-speed shiftable automatic transmission.
Driving enthusiasts will also appreciate the Audi Drive Select system, with four modes that adjust throttle response, shifting, suspension, and steering to suit your mood or your needs, including relaxed Comfort mode, high-performance Dynamic mode, and adaptive Auto mode.
