2014 Chevrolet Impala LTZ FWD 4-Dr Sedan I4 Overview
2014 Chevrolet Impala Overview
The Impala is one of the most recognized nameplates in the industry, and one of Chevrolet’s oldest models. Since its introduction, the Impala has gone from a high-end trim level to the best selling vehicle in America to a very poorly reviewed model. In fact, production was cancelled twice. Today it is a full-size midrange sedan seating five people and marketed as a convenient and comfortable model perfect as a family vehicle.
Production began in 1957 and it quickly became one of the best selling models in the United States. Year by year, today’s Chevrolet Impala models have been recapturing a bit of their original popularity by offering more powerful powertrains and providing a quiet and comfortable ride even on rougher surfaces. Areas where the 2014 Chevrolet Impala has received high marks include its handling for this size vehicle, roomy back and front, a large trunk, very quiet interior with higher quality materials than may be expected, and good gas mileage for a V-6 engine. Areas where it has received some criticism include the feel while downshifting in the V-6 version, alloy wheels are not standard, and there are some rear visibility issues.
There are five trim levels available: the 1LS, 1LT, 2LT, 1LZ, and 2LZ. The Impala comes with a fair amount of standard features and a number of options available at each level.
New for 2014
The 2014 Chevrolet Impala receives only small updates:
- New mild-hybrid engine as one of the powertrain options
- Small design changes
The exterior design of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala is still fairly plain but offers a handful of recent updates, including a more noticeable and aggressive grille and chrome trims available. The four-door full-size sedan is available in a range of color choices and different finishes, including chrome accents. A moonroof is optional on select models.
Interior & Cargo
The Impala is a good option as a family vehicle due to interior space, and may be a good option for those looking for a bit of a luxury feel without the luxury price tag. Some interior features include air, speed control, remote keyless entry, tilt/telescoping steering, sound system with CD player and MP3 compatible with sound system upgrades available, and available navigation. The Impala seats five comfortably and has ample trunk space. The interior quality is high and there are different trims available.
The 2014 Chevrolet Impala gets ten airbags all around, OnStar, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, backup camera, rear park assist, anti-lock brakes and electronic stability. There are no government crash test ratings available as of yet.
Impala drivers can choose between a more fuel efficient 195-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder or a powerful-for-its-class, 305-hp, 3.6-liter V-6. In addition, Chevrolet will be adding a 182-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder with a mild-hybrid system (one which does not take over operation like many hybrids, but assists for increased fuel efficiency). Transmissions include a six-speed automatic with overdrive or the same with an auto-manual added. Exact mileage has not been officially confirmed on the gasoline models, the hybrid has been estimated at 35 mpg average city/highway.
